The Bear Cub Card

Sale Price: $10.00 Original Price: $15.00

The Bear Cub Card was thoughtfully designed to remove the barriers to learning mahjong. Created by Certified Mahjong Instructor and mother of five, Sarah Nazarian, this simplified card helps beginners and kids gain confidence and joy in playing the game.

Each Bear Cub Card includes only a concise selection of hands—about one-third the number found on the standard NMJL card—making it easier to focus and reducing the overwhelm that often comes with learning.

Every detail has been refined with beginners in mind:

  • Beginner-friendly sections only — challenging categories from the League card have been removed.

  • Simple groupings — most hands use 3–4 tile groupings, making it easy to call for Jokers and avoid tricky singles and pairs.

  • Minimal singles — only three hands include singles, and those tiles are clearly outlined with boxes so you won’t mistakenly call for them.

  • Helpful symbols — each line includes an icon, making it easy to track your chosen hand and clearly communicate your winning line to others. This is an especially helpful tool for beginners!

  • No soaps or zeros — all hands use the white dragon tile instead, simplifying gameplay for new learners.

  • Exposed hands only — eliminating the frustration of concealed hands while you’re still building skills.

  • Easy pivoting — hands are intentionally designed to make switching between lines simple, boosting early success and confidence.

The Bear Cub Card also includes a four-level learning system that introduces mahjong step by step. This guided approach builds understanding and skill in a fun, approachable way—helping beginners feel capable, confident, and ready to call “Mahjong!”
